About the Master's Programme

Interdisciplinarity. Internationality. Diverse. Theoretical, yet practical.

These, and more, are the cornerstones of the Master’s programme “Peace and Conflict Studies”. Aside from its core areas in political science and sociology, courses in various other disciplines, such as philosophy, history, or cultural studies, are offered to students to complement their studies. Hence, students from all kinds of disciplines in their previous studies, or even work experiences, can make this study programme their home. Adding to the diversity of the programme are the many international participants from all parts of the world, including Latin America, Africa, or Asia. Many of them are supported by scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Aimed at preparing students for both academic and field work at universities, think tanks, NGOs, or other institutions on a national or international level, the MA “Peace and Conflict Studies” relies on close relations between its students and those teaching the courses. The goal is to bring together current and future peace and conflict researchers and to reduce the divide between theory and practice through a less formal setting. The latter is also ensured through a programme relevant, obligatory internship and language courses, through which students gain practical experiences and acquire additional skills useful for their later professional life.
